Vibe.fyi player app & LG firmware updates

Learn how to manage your LG firmware versions and Vibe.fyi player app updates to optimize your LG Digital Signage device and minimize any disruption to your workplace digital signage.

LG Firmware

Update via Vibe.fyi player app

  1. Power the LG device on
  2. Press Blue button on the LG remote to open Vibe app logs
  3. Select ADVANCED COMMANDS
  4. Click UPDATE FIRMWARE

  5. When the update completed, the LG device will reboot automatically
If the firmware is already up to date you will be see a message in the app logs e.g. "Your current firmware (version) is up to date. please contact support@vibe.fyi to see if newer firmware is available"

USB

WebOS6 - Upgrade

  1. Before you go onsite - Download and copy the WebOS6 firmware file onto a USB Flash Drive (with at least 1GB of free space)
    1. Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer and create a new folder named LG_MONITOR on your USB flash drive
    2. Download the latest patch firmwarewebos6.epk  file version 08.05.40 for WebOS 6.0 and save to the LG_Monitor folder
    3. When the download is complete, eject your USB flash drive.
  2. When you are onsite
    1. Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port on your LG webos device
    2. When the Software Update menu launches, use the LG remote to select UPDATE
    3. When the update is complete*, the LG device will reboot.
    4. When the reboot is complete, remove the USB flash drive.
If the LG device is running a newer firmware version (than the one installed on your USB flash drive), select Cancel and remove the USB flash drive.

WebOS6 - Downgrade

This may be required if you installed a beta FW version which is greater than that of an official FW release.
  1. Before you go onsite - Download and copy the WebOS6 firmware file onto a USB Flash Drive (with at least 1GB of free space)
    1. Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer and create a new folder named LG_MONITOR on your USB flash drive.
    2. Download the latest patch (Ask vibe to send the link to download the file) for WebOS 6.0 and save to the LG_Monitor folder.
    3. When the download is complete, eject your USB flash drive.
  2. When you are onsite
    1. Power the LG WebOS device on
    2. Press the SETTINGS button on the LG remote (or click the button on the Launcher screen)
    3. Open the General menu 
    4. Press the 7 button, seven times, on the remote control to launch the Software Update menu
    5. Select the firmware file
    6. Enable the Ext. MICOM* option.
    7. Click UPDATE to start updating with the selected firmware
*Enabling the Ext. MICOM URSA (or Ext. MICOM option) allows updating firmware regardless of the micom version already installed on the device.
If the Ext. MICOM URSA or the Ext. MICOM option is disabled, the micom version of the firmware you are trying to update with MUST be higher than the one already installed on the device.

WebOS4 - Upgrade

  1. Before you go onsite - Download and copy the firmware update onto a USB Flash Drive (with at least 1GB of free space)
    1. Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer and create a new folder named LG_MONITOR on your USB flash drive.
    2. Download the latest patch firmware4.0.epk file for WebOS 4.0 and save to the LG_Monitor folder.
    3. When the download is complete, eject your USB flash drive.
  2. When you are onsite:
    1. Insert the USB flash drive with the firmware file into the USB port on your LG digital display.
    2. When the Software Update menu launches (see below), use the remote to select UPDATE
    3. When the update is complete, the LG device will reboot.
    4. When the reboot is complete, remove the USB flash drive.

WebOS4 - Downgrade

  1. Before you go onsite - Download and copy the firmware update onto a USB Flash Drive (with at least 1GB of free space).Create a new folder on your USB drive:
    1. Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer and create a new folder named LG_MONITOR on your USB flash drive.
    2. Download the latest patch (Ask vibe to send a link to download the old versionfor WebOS 4.0 and save to the LG_Monitor folder
    3. When the download is complete, eject your USB flash drive.
  2. When you are onsite
    1. Press the SETTINGS button on the LG remote (or click the button on the Launcher screen)
    2. Open the General menu 
    3. Press the 7 button, seven times, on the remote control to launch the Software Update menu

    4. Select the firmware file (version must be lower than the current installed version)
    5. Enable the Ext. MICOM* option
    6. Click UPDATE to start updating with the selected firmware
*Enabling the Ext. MICOM URSA (or Ext. MICOM option) allows updating firmware regardless of the micom version already installed on the device.
If the Ext. MICOM URSA or the Ext. MICOM option is disabled, the micom version of the firmware you are trying to update with MUST be higher than the one already installed on the device.

WebOS2, 3 & 3.2 - Upgrade

  1. Before you go onsite - Download and copy the firmware update onto a USB Flash Drive (with at least 1GB of free space)
    1. Confirm the LG model number using one of the options below:
      1. Check the sticker on the back of the LG display/media player
        OR,
      2. Locate the information onscreen using the remote
    2. Press the Home button on the remote. If the information is not listed, select Information and press OK.
      OR,
      Contact your hardware supplier
    3. Create a new folder on your USB drive:
      1. Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer and create a new folder named LG_MONITOR on your USB flash drive.
      2. Download the firmware .epk file to the USB flash drive:
      3. Locate your model below and click the link to download and save the latest firmware image file (.epk) to the LG_Monitor folder on your flash drive
        NOTE: These files are approx. 500MB in size:
        1. WebOS v3.2 / (SM5KD series | UH5D) Firmware version for 3.2
        2. WebOS v3.0 (SM5KC series | UH5C) Firmware version for 3.0
        3. WebOS v2.0 (SM5KB series) Firmware version for 2.0
    4. When the download is complete, remember to eject your USB flash drive.
  2. When you are onsite:
    1. Insert the USB flash drive with the firmware file into the USB port on your LG digital display.
    2. When the Software Update menu launches (see below), use the remote to select UPDATE
    3. When the update is completed, the LG device will reboot.
    4. When the reboot is complete, remember to remove your USB flash drive.

Remote Upgrade

  1. Login to your admin console
  2. Open Devices > Remote Management
  3. To edit or view the device details, click the Edit icon
  4. In the Device Manager, Select Update Firmware in the Run A Command dropdown

     
  5. Wait for the update to download and install. When the update is complete, the LG device will automatically reboot

Vibe.fyi Player App

Update via the Vibe.fyi player app

  1. Press the blue button on the LG remote to open the app logs
  2. Select ADVANCED COMMANDS
  3. Select UPDATE VIBE.FYI APP FROM REMOTE SERVER 
  4. Once updated, the LG device will automatically reboot
    If the app version is already the updated version you will be able to see a message in logs "Your Vibe.fyi app is already up to date (version number)"

Remote Upgrade

  1. Login to the admin console
  2. Open Devices > Remote Management
  3. To edit or view the device details, click Edit
  4. The modal window will display the details of your selected device
  5. Click on the drop down arrow and select the update firmware option 
  6. After the updating, the system will automatically reboot.

Update via LG system settings

  1. Press the Settings () button on the LG remote
  2. In the menu, open Ez Settings and select SI Server Setting
  3. In the SI Server Setting page, apply the following settings to download the Vibe.fyi player app:

  4. Fully Qualified Domain Name - Select ON and enter this Vibe.fyi player app download URL:
    https://download.vibe.fyi/webos/app.ipk
    NB: If you are sent a custom Download URL use that instead
    1. Application Launch Mode - Select Local
    2. File or Application Type - Select IPK
    3. Local Application Upgrade - Select Remote
  5. Select Confirm

  6. After a successful download/install, select OK

  7. Use the LG remote to restart the TV (power off, then on).
